BISON BOTS
Challenge. Build. Compete. Create.
Welcome to Bison Bots!
Come have a blast dreaming up designs, building, driving, and competing in the SMS Robotics program. Offered to St. Mary students in grades 3-8, robotics is an awesome way for kids to learn some basic engineering and physics principles and have a lot of fun doing it.

Students work in small teams to develop a strategy to get the most points, build and test out their ideas, and then compete in a season-end intramural challenge. Bison Bots meets Friday afternoons through the winter. Come join us!

BUILD
All students begin by learning the basic building blocks of the VEX IQ set. They follow a step-by-step guide to build a base robot - discovering how parts connect and interact together. Students can then choose to either keep it as is, modify the design, or deconstruct it completely and create their own. Through trial and error, students learn what works, what doesn't, and make any necessary adjustments to their designs.
DRIVE
Developing a great robot design is only good if you can control it in a game challenge. Students spend time practicing driving their robots on the field, learning to activate each of its motors with various remote control buttons.
PROGRAM
Robots can also be set up to run challenges automatically using programming and sensors to complete tasks.

While we don't currently offer this option for students in the SMS Robotics program, we hope to someday soon! If you have an interest in this area, please click the "Get Involved" links below.
